Here's what we did this week

Oct 2-Friday

Chem 122-More work with LeChatelier today and a short video. We saw a dance analogy to show the effects of concentration on equilibrium.
Chem 121-Group work on naming and chemical reactions. We went over combustion, cracking, reforming, and addition reactions. We went over one question from each part of the sanford study sheet. Please do 31, 34,35,43(previously assigned), 46. I think I have included one extra question other than the list I gave you friday.
Chem 112-Day 4 of lab set 1

Oct 1-Thursday

Chem 122-Chapter18.2 We will work on the topic of equilibrium. I will show a video to show some of the ideas connected to LeChateliers Priniciple. We will go over how to represent equilibrium. We will do conceptual problem 18.1 and then you will try #6. not completed yesterday-->I will finish 18.5 first and assign p 577 #37, p 579 38, 39, 40
Chem 121-You will summarize the major reactions from this unit into your notebook. You will do some more practise with naming and recognition of functional groups. Please recheck 4,5, 17 and 18 from within the chapter.
Chem 112-P4 Today we will be working with more naming but this time you will be introduced to acids and bases. You will observe what happens when a solid composed of both an acid and a base is mixed with water. Today's class work (Friday's homework) will be on page 273 # 29-33 and # 6 on your naming sheet. Since there is a dance tonight there will be no homework assigned for tomorrow but the work assigned will be due for Monday. We will play ChEMGO to practice identifying formulas for chemical names we have learned so far.
P5- Same as period 4 yesterday. Homework is due for Monday since there is a dance tonight.

Sept 30-Wednesday

Chem 122-We will overview the connection between potential energy diagrams and activation energy diagrams. The questions from yesterday #13 and 15 will help make you really think about the connections. I will go over rate determining step and reaction mechanisms. There will be some notes on this topic. There will be notes on section 5 in chapter 18. Hwk: handout 10 all
Chem 121-Last of presentations. Today the Addition and Condensation Polymers will present. There will also be a ketone crossword puzzle for you to complete. You will receive a practice naming sheet(tomorrow) with the functional groups that have been covered by the presentations over the last 4-5 classes. The questions that I assigned from the chapter are p 729 4,5 and p 736 #12, and p 746 #18
Chem 112-P4-Today we will look at naming ionic compounds. We will go over the questions assigned yesterday. The criss cross approach will be reviewed with each question that involves a multivalent transition element. I will get you to help in making up some cards for use in a game for tomorrow. Today's homework is on page 263 # 10-13, 17,19 and # 3 on your naming sheet.
P5-Same as period 4 yesterday.

Sept 29-Tuesday

Chem 122-Today we will begin the unit on Solutions to Kinetics to Equilibrium. I will do a short activity to show how surface area affects reaction rate. You will then provide answers to p 547 1 to 5. You wll receive a handout with some questions where you interpret some activation energy diagrams. do #15 and #13
Chem 121-Presentations Halides, Amines, --> Tomorrow-->Addition and Condensation polymers, Natural Polymers
Chem 112 P4 In class today-->New Unit Naming Compounds and molecules Today you will work with naming ions section 9.1 You will receive a scientific periodic table and a practise worksheet, as well as the study sheet for acids, bases and salts. You will receive some tables to put in the plastic folder with your periodic table. Hwk: do sheet 1 and 4 as well as P 256 #1,2 and p 258 6- 9.
P5-Day 3 of lab set 1

Sept 28-Monday

Chem 122-
Test Energy/Enthalpy Unit Ch 17
Chem 121-Presentations-Organic Projects Ketones, Esters, Amides,
Chem 112-Lab Day 3 Lab open today at noon hour if you and your groups have things to complete. Period 5 Lab Day 2 Reminder p 193 #3 to 10 is to be done for tomorrow.
